Beskrivning
Yeast cells are widely used in biotechnology for the production of a wide variety of chemicals such as fuels, drugs, food additives etc. This is achieved by introduction of genes from other organisms which can alter the cellular metabolism. However, not all genes are performing good and there is always space for improvement. Evolution can reveal new variants of those genes which were previously unknown and have improved properties. CRISPR is a new technology that enables precise genome editing and it can also be used for targeted evolution of genes of interest.
